Eagles acquire ex-Pro Bowl CB Jaire Alexander
Hoping he's the answer after swap with Baltimore

To fix what’s become a revolving door at outside cornerback, Howie Roseman keeps reaching for answers — even if none have stuck yet.
Ahead of this Tuesday’s trade deadline, the Eagles general manager added veteran corner Jaire Alexander in a Saturday night deal with the Ravens, sending a 2026 sixth-round pick to Baltimore for Alexander and a 2027 seventh-rounder.
The move came just days after Philadelphia’s acquisition of Michael Carter II from the New York Jets. Since parting ways with Darius Slay in the offseason, the Birds have struggled to find a replacement opposite Quinyon Mitchell. In training camp, Roseman added Jakorian Bennett after signing veteran Adoree’ Jackson in the spring.
Alexander, 28, brings a high pedigree: a 2018 first-round pick (18th overall) out of Louisville via the Green Bay Packers, two Pro Bowls and two second-team All-Pro selections (2020, 2022).
During seven seasons in Green Bay, he posted 292 combined tackles, 12 interceptions and 70 passes defended. However, after signing an incentive-laden one-year deal in Baltimore worth up to $6 million, he played in just two games and was listed as a healthy inactive for five.
On one hand, adding Alexander introduces a former elite corner into a unit that has lacked consistency and depth. On the other, questions remain about his recent availability and how quickly he’ll adapt to defensive coordinator Vic Fangio’s scheme. But unlike Carter, who is most accustomed to playing in the slot — where the Birds obviously have a young star in Cooper DeJean — Alexander is a traditional outside cornerback.
From Baltimore’s vantage, the trade cleared a roster spot and recouped draft capital for a veteran who hadn’t been in the rotation. The move reportedly shaved around $2 million off the Ravens’ salary cap and allowed them to continue leaning on a young, deep corner group. For the Eagles (6-2), the cost was minimal while they prepare for a second-half run as they emerge from their bye.
Alexander was born in Philadelphia but grew up in North Carolina. The Eagles’ next game is in a week in Green Bay on “Monday Night Football.”
If Alexander can return to form and navigate the transition smoothly, the Philly secondary could shift from a concern to a bona fide strength. If not, the risk is modest. But either way, the message is clear: the Eagles are still trying to plug this leak that’s been an issue since the summer.
