The Eagles’ 22-19 overtime loss to the Chargers Monday night was defined by Saquon Barkley’s resurgence, the defense’s relentless pressure and, most glaringly, a five-turnover meltdown from quarterback Jalen Hurts that erased multiple opportunities to leave SoFi Stadium with a win.
Quarterbacks: D-
Hurts threw four interceptions, lost a fumble and repeatedly forced balls into coverage, offsetting 240 passing yards and sinking the offense with the overtime pick that sealed the defeat. Hurts seems to be feast-or-famine, either ultra-conservative or throwing bad interceptions.
Running backs: A-
Barkley buoyed the attack, rushing 20 times for 122 yards and a 52-yard touchdown, consistently providing life behind a battered offensive line.
Wide receivers/tight ends: C
AJ Brown (6-100) and Dallas Goedert (8-78) produced yards but not enough clean execution; Brown’s drops — including an end-zone miss and another that became a pick — and inconsistent separation stalled drives.
Offensive line: B-
It was a gutsy effort against a good defense, allowing just one sack and paving the way for 134 team rushing yards, but penalties and sporadic pressure contributed to the passing game’s dysfunction.
Defensive line: A
With seven sacks and constant disruption — even without Jalen Carter — the front dominated, collapsing the pocket on QB Justin Herbert and forcing hurried throws all night.
Linebackers: B+
Active and physical in run fits, contributing to the sack total and limiting explosive ground gains, though they yielded some chunk completions underneath and on scrambles.
Cornerbacks/safeties: B+
Kept Herbert to 139 passing yards with one touchdown and one pick, but gave up a 60-yard catch-and-run and several key conversions that extended field-goal drives. CB Adoree’ Jackson had his best game and S Marcus Epps provided a boost.
Special teams: B
Jake Elliott went 4-for-5, coverage units were steady, and slew of impressive returns by Britain Covey and Will Shipley provided workable field position. Still, the lone miss and allowing former Eagle Cameron Dicker to finish 5-for-5 — including the 54-yard winner — proved costly. Elliott has missed five field goals and an extra point in the last seven games.
Coaching: C
The defensive plan was sharp and aggressive, but the offensive approach was again disjointed, failing to adjust to Hurts’ struggles and culminating in another high-risk overtime decision into double coverage. There were seven trips inside the Chargers’ 40 in which the Eagles failed to score.
